Google allow web applications like Gmail and Google Docs can be used even when no Internet connection, or you can use, eg to write e-mails, and when you are online then all changes will be active.
Unfortunately for users of Firefox, Opera and other browsers, offline support for Gmail is provided through extension Chrome Offline Google Mail.
